Quotes: which factors affect the price?
# FAQDepending on the specifics of your building project such as location, build design, land topography and local council requirements: the selection of products will meet certain performance ratings such as:
- Energy Efficiency Rating
- High wind and water load / cyclone ratings
- Acoustic reduction rating
- Bushfire Bush-Attack-Level rating
- Fall prevention mitigation
- or any combination of these requirements
Compliance with these regulations will often require the products supplied to perform to a certain level as determined by Australian Standards and Construction Codes.
Product test data and performance ratings will be considered for product selection stage of preparing your quotation by our sales staff.
Our experienced team understand these regulations and will ensure that your windows and doors are compliant with them and they will also work with you on various option and configuration cost-saving initiatives so that you get the best value for money.
The following is a list of factors which will affect the costings included of your quotation:
1. Frame Type
- Our product series use a variety of frame profile depths: 50mm vs 75mm vs 102mm vs Thermal Break
- Each product series have different performance factors and will often suit a particular application or dimension range
- Each product type has a code to differentiate them and groups them into application
e.g. 618 Stacker Door and 616 Awning Window are part of the Designer Residential Series - Typically as the profile depth increases, the cost will go up due to the amount of aluminium used in the profile
2. Style and Design
- Minimising the variance of different product series where possible will assist in optimisation on materials and provide cost saving benefits
- Frame finishes groups are priced according to their popularity, 3rd party supply (e.g Anodising) and extended warranty coverage
- Window and door hardware series are each a cohesive system across the different product types, with the 316 Stainless-Steel finish ICON series being the most premium option on offer
- Products with unique operation features such as concealed sections e.g 704FBR or Lift & Slide e.g 704LS have additional components and manufacture preparation
3. Size and Complexity
- Products with more complexity such as bi-fold doors have a higher number of components required for operation and increased manufacture preparation and assembly time
- Larger product sizes require not only more material but also labour time and resources during manufacture and delivery and sometimes require crane hire
4. Compliance with Regulations
Energy Efficiency Rating: the selection of products and glass based on thermal performance to meet the EER of the project will affect the costing based factors such as:
- Low-E Glass coated glass or Insulated Glass Units (Double-Glazing)
- ThermalHEART™ Product frames utilise thermal-break technology which is a uPVC strip that separates the exterior and interior faces of the profile increasing its insulating properties
Bushfire Regulations: The Bush Attack Level (BAL) will often require aluminium mesh or stainless-steel mesh screens to be added to products to protect openings
- Invisi-Gard Security screens utilise high tensile 316 marine grade stainless steel mesh and are an excellent solution to meet BAL40 requirements as well as ensures maximum strength and durability as a barrier product to secure your doors and windows when left open for ventilation.
Fall-Prevention: Protection of openable windows where windows are positioned 2 metres above the ground floor.
- The addition of Fall-prevention screens and or restrictor hardware tested to Australian Standard AS5203 is necessary to comply with National Construction Code (Vol 1: D.2.24 & Vol 2: 3.9.2.6)
Acoustic Ratings: Acoustic tested systems to reduce the impact of traffic, aircraft noise, and entertainment systems. Acoustic privacy in many properties has become a major concern.
- Acoustic-Laminated Glass, IGU Double-Glazing and SoundOUT secondary glazing are amongst some of the solutions to reduce the full spectrum of sounds from both high frequencies and low frequencies, and reports detailing acoustic performance are available for all acoustic tested AWS systems
5. Installation
- Our optional installation service is recommended for our large and complex products
- Correct installation by QBCC licensed fitters is crucial for the correct functionality of our windows and doors
Your building designer / architect should provide to you the relevant reports (Energy; Acoustic; BAL) required for your project so they can be submitted as part of your quote request.
